A low cost method of detecting surface breaking flaws, such as crack, cold laps,porosity etc.The dye penetrant is drawn in the surface breaking flaw by capillary action and the excess surface penetrant is removed, a developer is applied to the surface, to draw out the penetrant in the crack and produce an indication. The technique can be applied to any non-porous material, metallic or non metallic.
